 Question about Airbag Warranty |

My 2002 VW Beetle airbag just went on the other day. I thought the airbag are federal mandated for 100,000 miles. We've had a couple of Audi's and havent had a problem with seat belt replacements. I called the VW Customer care number and they said its only for 5 years/50,000...My miles on my vehicle is at 34,000. Does anyone know if this is true????? Could there another reason this light might have come on????? Thanks
