i have a 1993 vw golf cl has a overheating problems |
|
hi i just brought 1993 vw golf cl on ebay for £83 tax and tested
but it has 2 problems
1. clutch is going easy sorted get new clutch and clutch cover
2. over heating problem all i know is that due to the electric cooling fan/motor failure so is it the head gasket gone or motor or does it need a new relay what ive been told by previous owner is that its drivable. as long as the car is in motion i.e air going through the radiator its fine but sitting in traffic for more than 5 minutes and it will overheat
please can anyone help

Hello, You like to pay about the same price as I do in Canada. Great.
First thing , at the bottom of the radiator, or a short distance up is a temperature switch. Depending on the model it has either 2, or 3 lugs. Power flows from the fuse in the fuse box, to the switch. from the switch to the fan plug, then to the fan.
In 3 lug models there is a resistor inline as well. The fan also has one ground wire. The system is always live and will stop/ start independent of the key. The lugs corrode, the fan plug corrodes and fuses blow. Get your fan circuit working correctly. Allan
