Post Fuel starvation, need nominal psi for fuel system... Reply with quote
Have been diagnosing a problem all weekend. Golf is essentially not drivable; upon acceleration experiencing power cut out after about 2 - 3 seconds of accel. Replaced fuel filter (as may have been restricting flow) no change.
I am 95 percent positive this is a symtom of fuel starvation. The injectors are sucking up more gas than can be supplied and revs then drop off. I have gauged the fuel in pressure and it is 30 psi...
This seems a bit low and I am thinking is probably the issue. Doe anyone know what the nominal fuel pressure is? or could they test it on their golf? if you have a liquid pressure gauge I can tell you how. or if you could ask around and find out I would be greatful...

If this is the problem a new fuel pump may be the solving factor - which will be mildly pricey.

Thanks!!! Rolling Eyes

Hello Durden, Pretty low. However pumps are real cheap if you shop. My Geo tracker pump cost me $45.00 out of Texas. That included shipping. You may also have a plugged pick up strainer. If you pinch the return to tank , a new pump should put out about 90 psi. Allan

Real cheap? I thought otherwise. My buddy picked up a new pump for his 92 plymouth voyager and it ran him around $230.00CAD; i was figuring good ol VW would be charging even more. But yes, shopping around will definately be the deciding factor on that.

I was thinking about a plugged strainer as well... which will still involved draning and dropping the tank.

Anyhow, time to give the dealer a call to verify the pressure on this model. 90 psi seems very high for this but I am assuming because of the restricted loop.

Thanks alot Alllan.

Razz
