98 VW GOLF GL... UPDATED...STILL NEED HELP!!! |
|
First off, thanks for reading because I am going insane with this car.
I bought this car in March 09 for $2600 with 100,000 miles. I probably sound like a dumbass for paying that much now. Anyway...
I didn't have this problem as soon as I got the car, but I still do now.
Right front brake pretty much locks after 10-15 mins of driving - usually stop and go traffic. When I'm shifting and the brake locks, I pretty much can't go as fast as I'm supposed to. It almost halts the car in a way. When it's locked/stuck... it's like it drastically slows the car when I take my foot off the peddle. My Dad noticed on the left rotor that there is a bolt/screw in the rotor, he assumes to hold it in place. On the right side, it is missing. I went to VW they gave me part # N 106 483 01... and apparently it is the wrong one. I went ahead and took my car to the mechanic to have the caliper changed and he said that bolt is probably nothing. Well, I got my car back today and the brakes still lock/stick. I'm not sure if there is a different part I should have or if it is something else causing this. It sure feels like the caliper or something locking because when it does, as I go to take off... I can hear grinding on that side.
If anyone can please give me some info. I would greatly appreciate it.. I am going nuts with this car and am starting to regret buying it. Someone please
help!!
-----------------------------------------------------
Alrighty, I guess I'll post again with this problem..... I've had things replaced.
I took it to a shop and had the caliper changed - DIDN'T HELP IT.
Today, I took it back and they replaced the brake hose. - DIDN'T HELP IT.
I drove it around for like 20-25 minutes today, seemed fine at first.. I guess wrong!!! It decided to lock up.. The peddle gets completely hard and when I take off I can hear the grinding of the caliper being stuck.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help? Anything? This car is going to kill me at a very young age. I have already spent about $400 having those changed along with a serpentine belt. I am going nuts!!
By the way, I have only had the car since March of this year and I contaxcted the seller... and of course he tells me.. "We *never* had problems with the brakes and you actually got a good deal on the car" I paid 2600 for this car with 99,000 miles on it and these problems came about. Good deal, ha, I think not!!

The bolt goes into the rotor. It holds the rotor to the hub - every mechanic I have asked has said that the bolt is not necessary because when the tire goes on, the lug nuts hold it in place. I am still having issues with this... and I have changed the caliper and brake hose.
