96 Jetta keeps dieing and backfiring |
|
My 96 Jetta shortly after starting it, will die on me. After it dies I am able to start it back up again though. Sometimes I can get it to run for a while, but as I let my foot out of the gas and accelerate back up again the vehicle will backfire on me. Idling seems to be ok. The vehicle is running rich though. I am sure of that. The other day I was cleaning the mass air flow sensor and it chipped on me. I am thinking that is the problem, but not posotive. My question for you is am I able to bypass the Mass Air Flow sensor. This way I can avoid the cost of a new one. Also is a 95 2.0 motor mass air flow sensor interchangable with my 96 2.0 motor. Thanks for any help.
Jake

Jake , I am not diagnosing your problem, however you also have a number of symptoms of timing belt trouble. Allan

Do you know if there is a way to bypass the mass air flow sensor so that way I do not have to buy one? Times are rough!
