Post 2002 jetta po322 code, tranny wont shift out of 3rd,CEL and Reply with quote
Well, started out with a p0321 and a p0322 code, and the CEL light on, then got the ECP light, car was stalling alot, couldnt get it over 40 due to the tachometer taching too high,(stuck in third) automatic tranny 01m. Its a 2.0 liter engine. My manual didnt show this car having a CKP, but the closest i could think of with the same function is the ESS. But that didnt affect the tranny shifting problem i thought. I went ahead and replaced the VSS under the left transaxle mount, same stuff. took it to Volkswagon, with Extended warranty i purchased, and was told it would cost me 1500 dollars to look at it. Not fix it, LOOK AT IT. Anyways, its back home, and i cant afford any more trial and errors, I need some expert advice here. I thought maybe if i cleared the DTC's It might work, having already inspected the wiring and all sensor plugs best as i could. I drove the car to the Auto parts store, where im getting to be too much of a refgular, and they let me use their scantool and i cleared the DTC's. Now the 2002 Jetta wont even start. I checked the codes again after trying to crank it and its telling me p0322, Engine speed sensor. Now my question is do i need to reprogram this thing after clearing the codes or was i in limp mode with a bad sensor and clearing the DTC's make it comp[lete poop out on me? I find nothing about a Crankshaft position sensor at all in the Haynes for this car, and do you think i am going in the right direction replacing the ESS? I am not getting any spark! Please help me out if you know what this is, i am still a fan of these cars but my faith is failing me fast.... Thanks in advance guys, Bill

Post update on DTC's Still need a pro's advice. Reply with quote
I changed out the ESS sensor and cleared the codes , car was finally back to normal........for 30 minutes! The ole check engine light reared its ugly head, and the tranny wont shift out once again. Still stuck in third unless i manually shift it . Apparentely it is due to a temperature issue with the wiring or a sensor breaking down, because once it cools off, it will restart. Has anyone had this problem like this before? If so can you give me some advice, im stuck in the street... I have a 2002 VK Jetta 2.0 liter, Automatic tranny, 01m, new ess sensor and a new vss sensor. still having cel light coming on after it warms up and starts running like a pinto. help if you can thanks, Lust4bust, Bill in pHOENIX
