Hello mark, I run a diesel or two with turbos. Turbo cool down in large commercial diesels is very necessary. They are physically large and tend to work hard most of the time. On long heavy pulls they often must gear down to prevent the exhaust temp from going too high. Your gasoline fueled 1.8 t is a rather well engineered engine. The bearings on your turbo are generously cooled by engine oil. The rotor mass of the turbo is about 1/8th of the big industrial ones. That means it cools fast. Further unless you are running full throttle with a load, you are normally cooling it as you decelerate.
On a hot day going up a long hill, I would idle for about a minute should I stop abruptly. Same thing its not wise to make a full throttle 1/4 mile then turn the engine off. Otherwise enjoy your ride Al

Mark, Racers are individuals. Are you planning on racing? If so perhaps you should have a discussion with a member of the racing folks. Adding a turbo charger oil supply cooler ? Well, 1.8 td's and I think your 1.8 already have this feature built in.Most turbo equipped unmodified cars do not require a 1 minute cool down. Your turbo is cooled by the oil supply. They usually last 300,000 or more in stop and go driving and no 1 minute cool down . If you are racing the car, and modifying the power output, then you need to look at a number of issues one of which should be a 1 min cool down ,only after a hard run.
