09 Jetta How often do you recommend changing oil |
|
hello all,
wife got an 09 jetta which includes free maintenance for 3 years.
I always do oil changes on my other vehicles every 3000 miles.
Am a little concerned about 10,000 mile interval even though it is synthetic.
Would you recommed paying for mid-interval oil change.
Normal driving conditions in NH.
Thanks.

You do not need to change the oil before 10k miles. Especially for the first oil change. There is break-in oil in the vehicle to help the valvetrain set properly.
I understand being un-easy about the change intervals. I work at a VW dealer and was kind of skeptical myself until I saw the oil drained from a 10k mile car. The oil is almost as clean as when it went in fresh.
My advise, save your $80-$100 bucks for the oil change and stay with he recommendation.

I'm no mechanic but no way would I leave any oil (synthetic orconventional) in there for 10K miles. The manufacturers love to advertise extended service intervals. I change it every 3K but I guess 5K is fine for synthetic.

I bought a 2009 Jetta S and I had my oil changed at 5K mi. with Mobil 1 0w-40. It is a true or "pure" synthetic oil. Castrol Syntech is NOT synthetic oil. The Mobil 1 0W-40 meets the Volkswagen VW 502.00/505.00/503.01
industry specifications. I use the VW oil filter, if not a WIX or a Mobil 1. I save all of my receipts for ever in a dedicated file. You may want to learn about synthetic oil. Vist the Mobil Oil site at mobiloil.com also, check out bobistheoilguy.com. The dealership will use Syntech which is a very highly refined "organic" oil marketed as a synthetic. A true synthetic is a man made molecule, vastly superior to an organic oil. I'm not a trained mechanic, I'm just another motor head.

I've been having ours serviced by an independent shop and they use Mobil1 as well. The oil cap even has Castrol on it. Was not aware it was significantly different than Syntech - thx.
